New CESG Funding Model Announced and New Advice on the Use of the Connection to the TESTA Network
We have recently updated the GSi notices which are all available from http://www.gsi.gov.uk/notices.htm. Two recently distributed notices may be of particular interest:
Funding of the GSi team at CESG
The GSi team within CESG is currently funded to March 2008, when the central funding expires. A number of options were identified to meet these recurring costs and these were presented to the MTE (Managed Telecoms Executive) who decided that these costs should be passed directly on to customers. This amounts to approximately £2,200 per annum per customer. These costs will be incorporated into the GSi Community Charge and collected by Cable & Wireless (C&W) from each customer from 1st April 2008.
Transmission of Data over the TESTA network
With effect from 12th December 2007 TESTA, TESTA2 or sTESTA is not to be used to transmit any sensitive or protectively marked information. Any transmission of such information is at your own Department's risk.
Although the TESTA-II network is accredited and can carry security marked information (up to the "EU-restricted" level) there is no application using the network today that has gone for accreditation and hence is able to handle security marked information (using the TESTAII network for transport between countries.) The new replacement network s-TESTA is also unaccredited at this stage. This process has not yet begun as there remain some outstanding issues that need to be resolved. Further updates will be provided when more information is available.
