LCD Flat Screens – Bigger Is Better?
The world market for Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screens is growing with worldwide shipments in the third quarter of 2006 reported to be the largest on record at nearly 35 million units.
It doesn't seem that long since we were talking about the best time to move from Cathode Ray Tube to LCD. Now discussion centres on the move to 19 inch LCD and 'Wide LCD' versus 'Standard'.
Sources suggest that in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, shipments of 19 inch wide screens outpaced 15 inch XGA screens for the first time – making 19 inch wide screens the number three size/resolution in this region.
While worldwide penetration rates for wide screens are forecast to have been 11% in 2006, this figure is forecast to jump to 31.6% in 2007.
We are already seeing evidence of suppliers offering both 17 inch and 19 inch screens at the same or very similar price. It pays therefore to shop around and keep an open mind about what is the best approach for your organisation.
