Zanzibar – large departments go live

Zanzibar, the Government eMarketplace, is now firmly established with the recent additions of two key central government departments as users, namely the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).

St Mary's Hospital, Hammersmith & Fulham Hospitals NHS Trust and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals NHS Trust are also now enjoying the significant benefits that buying through Zanzibar can offer.

All of these organisations are rapidly moving from a pilot phase to deploying Zanzibar across their businesses and we expect to announce further additions throughout 2007.

In addition, more than 64% of OGCbuying.solutions framework suppliers are now registered and active and more than 140 catalogues have been loaded onto the system.

We are busy working with all of our customers and potential customers to deploy Zanzibar within their organisations. To be successful in these efforts, a key component is having suppliers on the system with catalogue content.

If your company has not completed the Zanzibar registration process you will not be able to supply organisations embracing the Zanzibar marketplace as the means of sourcing goods and services and you may in fact already be missing out on orders.

A full list of registered OGCbuying.solutions framework suppliers can be found on our website. If you are yet to register to the Zanzibar eMarketplace then we would urge you to do so. For help with this registration activity, please contact our registration helpdesk zanzibaradmin@ogcbs.gsi.gov.uk.

We will also soon be running a pilot called 'Marketplace for Schools', based on Zanzibar – with plans to roll out to all schools in England.

There is further information on this initiative on the DfES website at www.dfes.gov.uk/cpp/sourcing_schools_01.shtml
