Improving your website

Your website is increasingly your first opportunity to make a positive impression on public sector customers searching for suppliers of goods and services.

So your website really has to grab a browser's attention – and provide a very simple means of finding out, what you do and how you do it. Here are some guidelines to make your www work for a public sector audience:

  • Overall impression – it should be well constructed, easy to use with simple navigation
  • Title on every page – people may navigate direct to a page from anywhere on the web
  • Navigation that stands out – use graphics or a different style from other content
  • Keep navigation to the left or top of the content
  • Limit the number of links on any one page (try to have less than 10)
  • Keep colours standard throughout the site with CLEAR links
  • Avoid overuse of complex graphics
  • Include a prominent link on your home page to a page describing your Framework Agreement(s) and the benefits to customers of using it
  • Link to the main Buying Solutions website
  • If possible, include relevant and up to date case studies illustrating customers' use of our Framework Agreements with direct quotes if possible
  • Highlight unique selling points and other things that differentiate you from your competitors
  • Highlight your capabilities in clear terms to help customers decide upon your suitability
  • Ensure that your sustainability policies and commitments are clearly stated
  • Update your site on a regular basis and date stamp your pages
